Introduction:
This notice concerns the decision by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (TUKES) regarding the Lillagunga Toddler Black - Dice product. Since product safety is a central part of our operations, we are committed to providing transparent and accurate information. The Lillagunga Toddler swing complies with mandatory EU directives (2001/95/EC and 2009/48/EC) as well as regulations for children's products.
This product has passed the highest European safety standards (EN-71-1 and EN-71-8) and the corresponding American standard (ASTM F1148-22). Additionally, we have conducted several internal tests to ensure product safety. Since the product's launch in 2016 until today, we hare not aware of any hazardous situations or accidents caused by the product.
Background:
TUKES is now participating in the joint European-wide JACOP2024 project, which focuses on the safety of children's products. During the project, TUKES sent the Lillagunga Toddler - Oak - Black Dice product to the Spanish testing laboratory AIJU for testing, where certain deficiencies were identified.
Identified risk:
If the product is hung too high, the triangle above the swing basket (see the yellow area in the picture below) may pose a risk of head and neck entrapment. Such a situation can arise if the child manages to climb out of the swing and tries to exit feet first through the mentioned triangle. The child's body can fit through the triangle, but their head may get stuck. If the child cannot find foot support in this situation, the triangle may pose a strangulation risk.
Measures needed:
To avoid hazardous situations, users must follow these instructions:
-
The product should be hung at a height of 35–36.5 cm (see image below).
-
The safety belt must always be used when the swing is in use.
-
The child must never be left alone in the swing.
In our current user manual, the instructions for points 2 and 3 are included, but point 1 is incorrectly stated. Therefore, it is important that users check and ensure that the swing is hung at this specific height. Since the described hazard can only occur if points 2 and 3 are not followed, we want to emphasize the importance of following all given instructions.
Instructions for adjusting the swing's height:
Only use the UPPER ROPE LOCKS for adjusting height.
Loosen the knot of the UPPER ROPE LOCK by pulling out on point A.
RAISE THE SWING: Pull out rope from point B. Then tighten the rope from point C.
LOWER THE SWING: Pull out rope from point B. Then tighten the rope from point C.
Check that the swing is set between the maximum and minimum height:
